Florida's handbook says to ease off the accelerator and steer in the direction the rear of the vehicle is sliding — often called 'steering into the skid.' Hard braking in a rear-wheel skid worsens it. Modern stability-control systems reduce skids on dry roads, but wet, oil-slicked, or ice-covered (rare in Florida) surfaces can still overpower the system.
